Ausable River Earth Day Cleanup

AUSABLE RIVER EARTH DAY CLEANUP

Whether you come with friends or on your own, you’ll be part of a group of neighbors, volunteers, and nature-lovers all working toward the same thing: leaving this place better than we found it.

There’s something special about showing up for a place you love—especially alongside your community.

Join us this Earth Day as we head out together to help care for the AuSable River areas. We’ll spend the morning cleaning up riverbanks, roadsides, and shared spaces—small acts that add up to something meaningful. Events like these bring people together to protect the places they call home and make a visible difference, one bag at a time.

We’ll be there with free coffee for volunteers—because good work deserves good coffee.

Warm up, connect, and refuel before or after your cleanup shift. It’s our small way of saying thank you for showing up and getting your hands a little dirty.

About AUSABLE EARTH DAY CLEANUP

The Ausable Freshwater Center will be holding their annual Earth Month Cleanup on April 18, 2026. Volunteers are needed to spend the morning removing garbage and debris from roadways and riverbanks in the Lake Placid, Wilmington, Jay, Upper Jay, and Keene communities.

This cleanup is an effort to remove the garbage that accumulates along the roads and green spaces that run along the river. Because roads are so close to the river in many places, this cleanup ensures the garbage is prevented from ending up in the river and polluting our waters. Registration is FREE and we provide supplies for all volunteers.

Last year, they brought together over 100 volunteers to pull thousands of pounds of garbage from around the Ausable River watershed in North Elba, Keene, Jay, and Wilmington. We plan to remove thousands of pounds of garbage again this year, connecting our community with tangible ways to steward the river, create a cleaner and healthier river, and provide a safer experience for cyclists, anglers, and all those enjoying the beauty of the area. But we need your help!
