Silent Book Club: Sara Placid Chapter

  • Origin Coffee Lake Placid 2669 Main Street Lake Placid, NY, 12946 United States (map)

There’s something quietly powerful about reading alongside others.

What began as two friends reading together in a wine bar has grown into a global movement—thousands of Silent Book Club chapters across 60+ countries, all rooted in the same simple idea: gather, slow down, and read—together.

At Origin Coffee Co, we’re bringing that spirit to our community.

The Sara-Placid Chapter of Silent Book Club isn’t your typical book club. There’s no assigned reading, no deadlines, no pressure to perform. Just bring whatever you’re currently reading—novel, poetry, nonfiction, audiobook—and settle in.

We’ll begin with a short window to arrive, order a drink, and gently connect. Then we move into an hour of quiet, shared reading. Afterward, you’re welcome to stay, chat, and exchange recommendations—or simply slip out into the evening.

What to Expect

  • Bring your own book (any format, any genre)

  • Arrive, settle in, grab a drink if you’d like

  • One hour of silent reading

  • Optional conversation + connection afterward

How To Register

This event is free to attend. Drinks are available for purchase. Register here: https://lu.ma/saraplacidsbc so we know how many people to expect and to receive any special messages from the organizer.

When We Gather

We meet every third Wednesday of the month, rotating between Origin Coffee Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. This month we are meeting at the Lake Placid cafe.

  • Timeline:

    • 6:00–6:30 PM — Arrive, order a drink if you want, settle in, optional light conversation

    • 6:30–7:30 PM — Silent reading hour

    • 7:30 PM onward — Stay, connect, share recommendations—or head out when you want!

Why We Host It

At Origin Coffee Co, we care deeply about creating spaces where people can gather meaningfully. Silent Book Club aligns with that intention—offering a slower, more intentional way to be together, rooted in presence, curiosity, and community.

Silent Book Club is special because it creates a different kind of gathering—one that makes space for both connection and solitude at the same time. Around the world, these gatherings have become a way for people to meet without expectation, to be present without performance, and to build community in a way that feels natural and unforced.

It’s a reminder that community doesn’t always have to be loud.

Sometimes it looks like a room full of people, a shared table, a good cup of coffee—and the quiet comfort of knowing you’re not reading alone.

Silent Book Club is a global community of readers and introverts, with 500 chapters around the world led by local volunteers. SBC members gather to read and build community in quiet camaraderie. This is the SaraPlacid chapter, but you can learn all about the movement here: https://silentbook.club
